The common name may be misleading, with this species found in a much wider range, from Cape York down to Gladstone, QLD. Compared to it's southern cousin Didymuria violescens, the female are more elongated with longer wings. The male lacks the large spurs which give the former it's common name.

Notes
Similar to Didymuria violescens, the nymphs of this species are fast and voracious eaters. Care must be taken when servicing the enclosure that there are no escapees.
Do not co-habitat this species with Spur legged stick insect Didymuria violescens. They can difficult differentiate when young.
